The Song: PTI (2025)
PTI — short for Putang Ina — reclaimed one of the most profane expressions in the Filipino language and turned it into a rallying cry for Filipinos worldwide. Led by Filipino-American rapper Carl Angelo alongside Ruby Ibarra, Yamz, Talilo, Miss A, and David Ira, the track became a cross-Pacific statement of collective rage and resilience, confronting the colonial and political forces that have long shaped Filipino identity. 
The song arrived at the boiling point of one of the most galvanizing corruption scandals in Philippine history: The Flood Control Scandal of 2025. Since 2024, a series of allegations of corruption, mismanagement, and irregularities in government-funded flood control projects under the Marcos administration began to unravel. The controversy centered on billions of pesos allocated for flood management, with reports of “ghost” projects — structures listed as completed on paper but nonexistent on the ground — substandard construction, and the alleged cornering of contracts by a small group of favored contractors. 
The Philippines lost an estimated ₱42.3 to ₱118.5 billion a year from flood control corruption since 2023. Those implicated included engineers from the Department of Public Works and Highways, unlicensed private contractors, and public officials who sought office not to serve, but to access public funds. Out of over 8,000 flood control projects inspected, at least 421 were found to be ghost projects entirely. A staggering ₱545 billion had been allocated for flood control from 2022 to 2025 — roughly 20% of which was awarded to just 15 contractors. 
In July 2025, at least 26 people died and over 300,000 were displaced — a direct consequence of failed infrastructure that should have protected them. 
The scandal galvanized ordinary Filipinos, who took to the streets in some of the largest anti-corruption protests in a generation. “This is the last straw for the Filipino people,” said one protest leader. "Putang Ina Nyo" shouted in the streets by Vice Ganda, became a rallying cry, with waves of Filipinos cheering in united fury. On September 21, 2025 — the 53rd anniversary of Marcos Sr.’s declaration of Martial Law — massive rallies erupted at Luneta Park and EDSA, drawing crowds from across the country and the diaspora. 
PTI was the sound of that moment.
The Quote: José Rizal — El Filibusterismo
The second inscription on the tombstone comes from the revolutionary novel that the Spanish colonial government feared so deeply it helped send its author to a firing squad.

Because, well, the day on which they restore my reason is the day they deprive me of the small bit of freedom I’ve purchased at the price of my reputation as a sane person. And who knows if they are right? I neither think nor live according to their laws. My principles. My ideals, are different.”

Rizal wrote those words in 1891. They land differently when you read them standing inside the context of 2025 — in a country where billions meant for flood walls ended up in private accounts, where the system called you crazy for being angry, where staying quiet was dressed up as wisdom.
He knew the cost of thinking differently. He paid it with everything, and he paid it habang buhay — for life.
